The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Frederick National Laboratory is dedicated to improving human health through the discovery and innovation in the biomedical sciences, focusing on cancer, AIDS and emerging infectious diseases.
The Bioinformatics and Computational Science (BACS) Directorate works collaboratively and helps to fulfill the mission of Frederick National Laboratory in the areas of bioinformatics and computational science by developing and applying world-leading computing technologies to basic and applied biomedical research challenges, supporting critical operations, developing and delivering national data resources, and utilizing leading-edge software.
The Center for Technical Operations Support (CTOS) group implements and manages software projects primarily sponsored by the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT). The work is primarily focused on successfully delivering software projects with development on local servers or the cloud. The projects are very diverse, typically merging science and IT, involve multiple stakeholders, and engineering can involve subcontractors. CTOS works collaboratively with the NCI to define the requirements and deliver a successful project.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide coordination of communications for collaborative initiatives for the Cancer Research Data Commons
- Work with the federal, CTOS and BACS team leads, participate in meetings with stakeholders, make recommendations for strategic communication, and create a range of written materials including meeting presentation decks, web site and wiki updates, and communication project plans
- Coordinate communications activities with collaborating organizations
- Work with CTOS managers to provide leadership and collaborative development of reporting processes and tools
- Provide for timely and accurate delivery of communication products and messaging for collaborative projects
- Support, gather and develop information necessary to meet reporting requirements
- Provide logistics support for meetings and workshops, including development and delivery of communication materials such as meeting invitations, agendas, website posts and content updates, follow-up with attendees
- Review and edit content prepared by others, as appropriate
- Support strategy and content development for FNL websites, flyers, annual report, external meeting reports, and other outreach and engagement collateral, as needed
- Be a key leader in a cross-functional team to deliver a successful project
- Create and maintain strong, healthy business relationship with clients, vendors and FNL staff

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) preferably in communication, marketing, public relations, or related field or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a communications role and a minimum of six (6) years in a management role
- Versatile writer who excels in translating complex ideas into clear, compelling text that engages various technical and non-technical audiences. Facile in developing, writing, and editing a variety of communication materials including email, flyers, website content, reports, and papers
- Demonstrated strategic thinking, outstanding writing skills
- A passion for working productively on team efforts
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, organizational, client relations, and project management skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Commitment to innovation, organizational development, and acceleration of cancer research
- Creative problem-solver who is motivated to make an impact and demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively on a team and across multiple organizational levels
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
