Summary

We have a current opportunity for a Sr. Staff Project Engineer located at our facility in Albuquerque, NM. The Project Engineering function within the ABQ operations site is responsible for providing technical execution ownership with product development teams. Within the hardware development life cycle, project engineers outline product development iterations, develop technical risk and opportunity plans, lead stage gate and interim technical reviews, manage product baseline and configuration items, and facilitate technical communication with customer. Responsibilities for the Project Engineer include:

Responsibilities
  • Establish the Project Engineering discipline and provide functional leadership which spans multiple locations.
  • Strategically position the functional engineering team for growth through recruitment of world class project engineering talent.
  • Provide engineering leadership and participate in proposal activity by developing and/or reviewing execution plans, developing estimate and a basis of estimates for task execution, and reviewing project costs.
  • Support engineering staffing projections across the Redwire ABQ Programs and manage resource allocation for active and forecasted projects.
  • Establish and report team metrics to Redwire leadership to monitor and guide team performance, skills bench depth, and on-time-delivery of engineering data.
  • Support the implementation of Engineering Department continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and manage implementation of tools to improve efficiency and performance of the team.
  • Provides inputs to department budgeting, organizational strategic planning, and project planning.
  • Participate in hardware development project execution as necessary; typically reviewing project plans and engineering data, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting/managing issue resolution.
  • Evaluate new technologies for application in improving the design of aerospace systems.
  • Support internal research and development planning and project execution.
  • Provide guidance for intellectual property management among the engineering team.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Ideal Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aerospace, or related field with 10 or more years' of experience, 8 or more years of experience with a Masters degree or higher.
  • Hardware development experience, developing or owning processes within an AS9100 or similar accredited environment.
  • Experience with Project Engineering tools and methods.
  • Experience in product life cycle and hardware configuration management strategies.
  • Prior experience developing and presenting functional team information to internal management.
  • Experience with design review process (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR) managing review boards, and preparing and conducting design review presentations.
  • Experience and training in safe handling protocols for flight hardware, including cleanroom and ESD standards.
  • US Citizen or US Person as defined by ITAR regulations.

Desired Skills
  • 6 or more years' experience in space-related discipline
  • Post graduate degree in Engineering, Aerospace, or related field.
  • Recognized space industry specialist with insight into multiple engineering fields and disciplines.
  • Prior experience in a functional leadership role, recruiting, leading teams, and monitoring team performance.
  • Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of space design best practices and lessons learned.
  • Lean Six Sigma belt certification.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint and Team. Microsoft Project experience a plus.
  • Have the ability to get a security clearance.
